Early Detection and Rapid Response
Early detection and rapid response is a key tenet of invasive species management, where “detection” is the process of observing and documenting an invasive species, and “response” is the process of reacting to the detection once the organism has been authoritatively identified and response options have been assessed. The 2016-2018 National Invasive Species Council Management Plan calls for NISC to “Undertake scientific, technical, and institutional assessments in order to determine the capacities and resources necessary to establish a national early detection and rapid response program for invasive species that affect priority landscapes and waters” (Action 5.1). The reports and products listed here advance this objective.
